Praise thru it all
I did not write “Praise thru it all” from a comfortable place.
I wrote it in the middle of questions that did not have quick answers and prayers that felt like they were bouncing off the ceiling. This song is not a polished theory about worship. It is my journal entry turned into melody. It is the sound of me choosing to lift my hands when everything in me wanted to fold my arms and shut down.
People hear the final mix and say, “That song is encouraging.” What they do not always see is the wrestle that happened before one word was recorded. So today I want to share the story and the heart behind it with you.
Where this song came from
There are seasons where life hits from every direction at once.
The kind of season where you are juggling bills, health scares, family tension, spiritual battles, and your own private doubts all at the same time. I was in one of those seasons.
I remember talking to God and saying, “ What do You want from me in a moment like this”
The answer that kept coming back was very simple
Praise Me anyway.
Not because everything feels good. Not because you have all the answers. Not because you are pretending the pain is not real.
Praise Me because I have not changed.
That sentence would not leave me. So I sat with it. I read through the Psalms and I kept seeing the same pattern. David and the other writers poured out their pain with brutal honesty. They asked why. They cried. They complained. Yet somewhere, most of the time by the end of the Psalm, a shift happened.
From “Why are You so far from me”
to “Yet I will praise You.”
From “My enemies are all around me”
to “The Lord is my light and my salvation. I will not fear.”
Praise did not erase the reality of their struggle. It simply put God back in the center of their view.
The phrase that would not let me go
I started humming a tiny hook to myself while walking around the house.
“I will praise thru it all”
That line caught exactly what I was feeling. Not “praise after it is over” or “praise once God fixes every problem.”
Praise through.
Praise while the questions are still on the table.
Praise while the tears are still on your face.
Praise while the bank account is still low.
Praise while the doctor is still running tests.
Praise in the hallway when the door has not opened yet.
Soon more words began to form around that one simple idea. I did not sit down and say, “Let me write a pretty worship song.” I simply tried to tell the truth about what it looks like to trust God when life does not make sense.
Pain and praise in the same room
One of the biggest lies many of us grew up believing is that faith and honest emotion cannot sit in the same room.
You either act strong or you admit you are broken.
You either shout for joy or you stay silent.
But the Psalms show something different. They show tears and trust sharing the same space. They show a heart that says, “I am hurting, but I am still holding on to You.”
In “Praise thru it all,” I wanted to capture that tension.
There are lines that sound like confession
I do not always understand
Some days my strength is gone
I feel like I am walking in the dark
And right beside those lines are declarations
Your love still has me
Your hand still holds me steady
I will lift my voice anyway
That is exactly how my own prayer life looks. It is rarely neat, but it is real.
What praise really does in a storm
When I sing this song, I am not trying to manipulate God or convince Him to act. Praise is not a bargaining chip.
Praise is me lifting my eyes.
When I focus only on the problem, everything in my soul shrinks down to the size of what I can see. My world becomes as small as the bill in front of me, the argument I just had, or the diagnosis on the paper.
But when I praise, I am reminding my own heart that God is bigger than what I feel.
I am telling my soul
He has carried me before
He sees what I cannot see
He is present in this exact moment
The situation may not change right away. The pain may not vanish. But something shifts inside of me. The storm is still there, yet my spirit stands a little taller.
That is why in the song I keep coming back to the same decision
“I will praise thru it all.”
It is not denial. It is alignment.
For the person who feels like giving up
If you are reading this and you feel tired of fighting, this song is for you.
Maybe you are in a place where the worship playlist feels fake because your real life is heavy. I have been there. I want you to know that God is not intimidated by your honesty. He does not back away from your questions.
You can tell Him you are tired.
You can tell Him you are confused.
You can tell Him you feel alone.
Then in that exact same breath, you can say,
“Even so, I will still choose to praise You. Not because I like this valley, but because I trust Your heart.”
My prayer is that when you hear “Praise thru it all” it will sound like someone sitting beside you saying, “I get it. I know it hurts. Let us lift our eyes together.”
What I hope this song does in your life
When people press play, I am not just hoping for streams or numbers. I am asking God to use this song as a reminder every time life tries to pull you under.
I hope
It becomes a soundtrack in the background while you drive to appointments you never wished for
It finds you late at night when anxiety tries to take over
It gives you language for prayers you do not know how to form yet
It helps you open your mouth and sing when you feel like staying silent
If all this song ever does is help one person worship God through one dark day, then for me it was worth every hour of writing and recording.
A personal invitation
I want to invite you into this journey with me. I am still learning how to praise through my own “all.” I do not have this mastered. There are days I forget my own lyrics and I go back to complaining before I remember to worship.
But I keep coming back.
If this song speaks to you, share it with someone who is walking through a fire of their own. Play it over your house. Sing it softly over your children. Use it while you read the Psalms and let those ancient words and this new song blend together into your own raw and honest worship.
Thank you for listening. Thank you for letting my story become part of your story.
And whatever you are facing right now
Keep your heart open
Lift your hands again
And praise thru it all.
